LittleBigPlanet Accidentally Announced?

April 17, 2010

Back in 2008, gamers were granted with one of the most fun and inventive games of the generation: LittleBigPlanet. Anyone who’s played it will know that it has so much charm to it and is just generally a really enjoyable game. Since it’s release, there has been loads of DLC for the game ranging from level packs to character skins and Media Molecule (The developers) have expressed that they wished to support the game by continuing to add content rather than make a sequel.

However, Christopher Leary (Better known as Ochre), Tweeted earlier on that he was “Pleased to announce the licensing of ‘Infotain Me’ to Sony for Little Big Planet 2 on PS3.”. Since then the Tweet has been deleted which suggests that there may be some truth behind it. Sony wouldn’t want a LittleBigPlanet sequel to be announced like this; this is the kind of thing for E3.

The game has been previously mentioned before. It came up in an interview about the upcoming PlayStation Move where it was mentioned as a game that would support the controls. Sony told us that it was simply a mistake though; this may not be the case.

Insomniac Going Multi-platform? [Update]

March 13, 2010

Insomniac Games, the developers of Resistance, Ratchet & Clank and Spyro the Dragon have always had a strong relationship with Sony but aren’t actually owned by the company. Despite this, they have never made a game for anything but Sony consoles. According to IGN, a “trusted source” told them that the developer is becoming a multi-platform developer.

Like I said, Insomniac is an independent studio but they have had a long relationship with Sony. If this rumour is correct, I doubt that Ratchet & Clank or Resistance would come to 360 because Sony have put funding behind the games and as far as we know, they still have some form of relationship.

However, it is likely that any multi-platform games will be new IPs that we haven’t seen before. Insomniac refused to comment on the rumour.

Update: Insomniac replied on NeoGaf saying the following:

“Well guys, Ted has spoken so you have that.

But c’mon, didn’t we just deal with this rumor like two months ago? And a few months before that? And so on?”

SOCOM 4 Announced

March 4, 2010

Previously this week a “Surprise Sony sequel” was teased to appear on GameTrailers TV and it has now been revealed as SOCOM IV: U.S Navy Seals. The developer of the original games and not the new online only one, Zipper Interactive, will be returning for the PS3 sequel. Zipper’s recent works include the online behemoth MAG.

This time it will have a single player and multiplayer mode unlike SOCOM: Confrontation. Multiplayer boasts 32 players per match and while it may not be MAG it should provide a more tense, team based experience. Check out the story after the jump. Read the rest of this entry ?

Happy Tenth Birthday PS2!

March 4, 2010

Ten years ago today, the PlayStation 2 made it’s debut over in Japan with only seven games to choose from. Now it’s the best selling home console of all time with over 140 million units sold and over 4000 games available for the system.

Happy Birthday PlayStation 2!

I consider the PS2 to be the best console ever made; I have so many memories of it. It introduced me to “hardcore” gaming and with my PS2 I moved towards new games and genres I never would have played beforehand. I can still feel the magic from Final Fantasy X; I’m still in love with the Ratchet & Clank universe; I will never forget the endings (Or the games) to Shadow of the Colossus and Metal Gear Solid 3.

Expect a celebratory feature up in honour of this fantastic title soon.

PSP-4000 Advert Was Just A “Mistake”

December 21, 2009

You may have read about the PSP-4000 being in an advert from Accessories4Technology. Well, they have now confirmed that it was not supposed to be there and was simply a mistake. They also mentioned that Sony haven’t told them about one so they have assumed there isn’t one. This could simply mean that Sony are being very secretive about it but judging from their past records, it seems very unlikely.

SCEA Aiming For “Summer 2010” Release For GT5

December 12, 2009

Gran Turismo 5 will be coming to Japan in March but there still hasn’t been a confirmed release date for the West. However, Sony Computer Entertainment America are aiming for an American release of “Summer 2010” which they told Destructoid. This would mean June 2010 at the earliest.

Nothing has been said about a European release date but I doubt it will be earlier than the North American date, how often does that happen (Not a lot)?

PSN Userbase Figures Announced

November 21, 2009

The PlayStation Network, along with the PlayStation 3, have been around for just over three years. You would imagine after three years that PSN would have quite a handful of members, especially since it has made vast improvements since then and even expanded onto the PSP. The last figures that were released were that the service had over 24 million users.

As of today though, the figures for the amount of PSN users is over 31 million. For a service that is only three years old that is quite impressive. As well as that Sony revealed that over 650 million pieces of content have been downloaded.
