LittleBigPlanet Accidentally Announced?

April 17, 2010

Back in 2008, gamers were granted with one of the most fun and inventive games of the generation: LittleBigPlanet. Anyone who’s played it will know that it has so much charm to it and is just generally a really enjoyable game. Since it’s release, there has been loads of DLC for the game ranging from level packs to character skins and Media Molecule (The developers) have expressed that they wished to support the game by continuing to add content rather than make a sequel.

However, Christopher Leary (Better known as Ochre), Tweeted earlier on that he was “Pleased to announce the licensing of ‘Infotain Me’ to Sony for Little Big Planet 2 on PS3.”. Since then the Tweet has been deleted which suggests that there may be some truth behind it. Sony wouldn’t want a LittleBigPlanet sequel to be announced like this; this is the kind of thing for E3.

The game has been previously mentioned before. It came up in an interview about the upcoming PlayStation Move where it was mentioned as a game that would support the controls. Sony told us that it was simply a mistake though; this may not be the case.

Rumour: BioShock MMO Being Developed

April 15, 2010

Destructoid received a tip from a “mysterious source” that 2K Games are currently developing a massively multiplayer online game based around the atmospheric, underwater FPS BioShock. The company has displayed interest in developing MMO’s in the past and BioShock was considered a candidate, though no official announcement has ever been given.

Out of all 2K’s games BioShock probably would fit the MMO requirements best but I’m still not sure if it would work. For me, BioShock was about the tense, overwhelming atmosphere that I doubt would exist if it was an MMO. Even then, would they make before or after the events of Rapture?

It’s worth mentioning that this is simply a rumour and it comes from a “mysterious source” so it might not be true. If you do really like the idea then it’s probably best to wait for an announcement before getting your hopes up.

Ninja Theory Working On Next Devil May Cry Game?

April 13, 2010

Ninja Theory, the developers of Heavenly Sword, are rumoured to be making the next installment in the Devil May Cry series. This rumour originated from the latest issue of Game Informer which has been transcribed by The Silent Chief.

“Loose Talk has learned that Enslaved isn’t the only game Ninja Theory is working on-we’ve heard that the Cambridge, England developer is being tapped for the next Devil May Cry.”

“It is not totally unexpected, however; Capcom has said that although it is shying away from Western developer for new IP, it would continue to utilize them for known franchises, which DMC certainly is.”

Capcom have previous for outsourcing development to Western companies with the likes of Bionic Commando and Dead Rising 2 being developed by separate developers rather than Capcom. Ninja Theory would make a good choice for Devil Mary Cry 5 because Heavenly Sword played similar and boasted incredible cinematic quality, among fantastic mo-cap and voice acting. Currently the company are working on Enslaved and apparently have a secret project which is yet to be announced – could it be Devil May Cry 5?

360 Slim Shots Leaked?

March 30, 2010

A slim Xbox 360 has been heavily rumoured for quite a while now with what was apparently details and information being leaked onto the Internet. Microsoft obviously denied the existence of the smaller 360 but GameKings are claiming to have some leaked pictures of the system. As you can see from the image, it looks a lot smaller and thinner than the normal model.

Of course, this is by no means an announcement. I’ve emailed Microsoft for confirmation but I doubt they’ll give much of a comment – despite it looking like it could be the 360 slim. If the pictures are true, I think it’s safe to say that slim consoles cannot be used as an E3 shocker.

Insomniac Going Multi-platform? [Update]

March 13, 2010

Insomniac Games, the developers of Resistance, Ratchet & Clank and Spyro the Dragon have always had a strong relationship with Sony but aren’t actually owned by the company. Despite this, they have never made a game for anything but Sony consoles. According to IGN, a “trusted source” told them that the developer is becoming a multi-platform developer.

Like I said, Insomniac is an independent studio but they have had a long relationship with Sony. If this rumour is correct, I doubt that Ratchet & Clank or Resistance would come to 360 because Sony have put funding behind the games and as far as we know, they still have some form of relationship.

However, it is likely that any multi-platform games will be new IPs that we haven’t seen before. Insomniac refused to comment on the rumour.

Update: Insomniac replied on NeoGaf saying the following:

“Well guys, Ted has spoken so you have that.

But c’mon, didn’t we just deal with this rumor like two months ago? And a few months before that? And so on?”

PSP-4000 Announced?

December 19, 2009

In the latest issue of online magazine MCV (Page 17) there is an advert for some of the recently announced LittleBigPlanet merchandise, specifically for a LBP PSP starter pack by Accessories4Technology. They happen to mention the different PSP models that the product is compatible with. The PSP-1000 is there, the PSP-2000 is there, the PSP-3000 is there and the PSP GO is  there. The interesting part is that the PSP-4000 is also mentioned.

This hasn’t been confirmed by Sony yet but it doesn’t seem likely that a manufacturer of these kinds of products would make a silly mistake like this. It could be a mistake though so watch out for more news on the subject popping up.

Pandemic Studios To Close?

November 17, 2009

The developers behind Star Wars Battlefront 1 + 2, the Mercenaries games, Full Spectrum Warrior and more are rumoured to be closing. They were rumoured to be closing a while ago but nothing came of it; hopefully nothing will come of it this time.

This hasn’t been confirmed though. If it is true, the majority of Pandemic’s employees will be fired (Roughly 200 people) but a few of them will be moving to other EA teams.

They made some great games last generation. Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 were great, Mercenaries was also great and Full Spectrum Warrior was pretty good too. However their latest efforts haven’t been so good with Mercenaries 2 not being anywhere near as good as the original and The Lord of the Rings: Conquest being average at best.

Their upcoming game, The Saboteur, is looking really impressive though. Apparently it will be given to EA’s Montreal Studio who made Army of Two. Hopefully this isn’t true as I still think they have potential to make some good games.
