LittleBigPlanet Accidentally Announced?

April 17, 2010

Back in 2008, gamers were granted with one of the most fun and inventive games of the generation: LittleBigPlanet. Anyone who’s played it will know that it has so much charm to it and is just generally a really enjoyable game. Since it’s release, there has been loads of DLC for the game ranging from level packs to character skins and Media Molecule (The developers) have expressed that they wished to support the game by continuing to add content rather than make a sequel.

However, Christopher Leary (Better known as Ochre), Tweeted earlier on that he was “Pleased to announce the licensing of ‘Infotain Me’ to Sony for Little Big Planet 2 on PS3.”. Since then the Tweet has been deleted which suggests that there may be some truth behind it. Sony wouldn’t want a LittleBigPlanet sequel to be announced like this; this is the kind of thing for E3.

The game has been previously mentioned before. It came up in an interview about the upcoming PlayStation Move where it was mentioned as a game that would support the controls. Sony told us that it was simply a mistake though; this may not be the case.

Sony Buy Media Molecule

March 2, 2010

Media Molecule, the developers of the critically acclaimed LittleBigPlanet, have been purchased by Sony and became a first party studio.  This really isn’t surprising since LittleBigPlanet is considered one of the PS3’s finest games by critics and gamers alike. To me it seems like a solid move on Sony’s behalf.

However Sony want to justify the purchase of a developer who have only developed one game. On the European PlayStation Blog, where the story was announced, a list of awards Media Molecule’s only game ever won and it’s defiintely impressive. To be honest though I would have been happy with, “They made LBP. What else do I need to say” but any excuse to show off is a good one I guess.

With Media Molocule becoming part of the “PlayStation Family” they will still make “great games” but with added support from Sony. From the sounds of things; it looks like it will benefit both Media Molecule and Sony in the future.

“The most important thing is that nothing will change from your perspective; Media Molecule will simply continue to make great games. Welcoming Media Molecule into the PlayStation family will allow us to better support their future titles and ambitions.”
