Retrospective – Disney’s Hercules: Action Game

November 8, 2009

Nostalgia really is an amazing thing. It can fill you magic that you haven’t felt for years; it makes you want to be a child again. Somehow I ended up listening to Disney songs the other day and I could still feel the magic that I felt all those years ago. Of course, this being a video games blog and not a movie blog I shouldn’t go on about all my favourite Disney films so I’ll talk about one of my favourite Disney games: Disney’s Hercules: Action Game. To be completely honest though, this wasn’t just one of my favourites Disney games, at the time it was on my favourite games ever!

I loved the Hercules film and I loved the game too. Thinking back upon this magnificent creation it was an extremely varied adventure that managed to capture the film’s magic almost perfectly. There were the normal levels which played as a 2D side-scrolling game with focus on fighting and jumping but there were also “rush levels” in which you had to keep on running forwards and you couldn’t turn back. Along with this the bosses were really fun to fight and were all relatively different.

Retrospective – Motorsiege: Warriors of Primetime

September 13, 2009

This is the first retrospective post ever made on this blog and is you missed the post explaining it then it is basically looking back on games that I used to play. I think that Motorsiege: Warriors of Primetime is a great first choice since I’m pretty damn positive that the majority of gamers and people who are reading this have not played the game or even heard of it. If you have heard of it, kudos to you and if you’ve played it, even more kudos to you. The main reason I’m choosing it though is because normally when you want a nostalgia fix, the outcome is always bad but I actually think I would still enjoy this.

There are a few reasons why it is basically unknown. All of them relate to the developer, Play It, which should give you a pretty good idea. Play It only seem to make small, low budget games that generally suffer a lot from being low budget. Their biggest game was Americas 10 Most Wanted and if you’ve heard of that you’ll know how bad that was. And of course this means that Motorsiege was also a very low budget game and very few people knew about and those that did knew how bad Play It’s other games have been and avoided it.

I said back there the PlayIts games generally suffered from not having much of a budget but Motorsiege is an exception to this rule.

I should probably give an explanation since you probably don’t have a clue what it’s about. Motorsiege is an action-driving game where you will go through a variety of modes all based around driving, destroying other vehicles or both. It was released on the PS2 and Xbox in 2003. Your vehicles could all be customised; obviously not the extent games allow you to these days though. You could choose the basic shape of your vehicle which would affect different factors such as speed, strength, boost, firepower etc. As you won events you would get points which you could upgrade your vehicle with. You could also choose your colour! Okay, the customisation isn’t that good then but it suited the game.
