Chinatown Wars Accounts For Nearly 50% Of M-Rated DS Game Sales

April 3, 2010

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars accounts for nearly 50% of all M-rated games on the DS, said Ben Feder, a CEO of Take-Two. He said that the title “represented nearly 50 percent of the unit sales of all M-rated DS titles in the history of the platform.”

Sounds impressive, doesn’t it? Well it’s not really as the game didn’t sell as well as expected and neither did the other 6 M-rated games on the DS. According to Joystiq the other six games were Dementium: The Ward, Resident Evil: Deadly Silence, Ultimate Mortal Kombat, C.O.R.E., Theresia and Touch the Dead.

As I said before, the sales weren’t as high as hoped for. Apparently piracy was one of the reasons behind this.

“Piracy is a real and present danger for our industry and must be addressed, especially in the handheld market,” he said. “The commercial performance of Chinatown Wars has certainly suffered at the hands of piracy.”
